Geek Pick: Shure MV88+ Is An Excellent, On the Go Microphone KitGeek Pick: Amazon Smart Plug Puts Alexa in Your Walls One of our recent Geek picks was the durable and convenient SwitchPack case by Waterfield. And we still recommend it for anyone looking for a great way to carry around their Nintendo Switch. But what if you’re looking for the benefits of a case like this but you hate video games? Does Waterfield make a case for you and your grown-up technology? Yes!Check out the Waterfield Rough Rider Messenger bag.You see a bunch of messenger bags here in New York. Busy people need a way to carry around their (physical) baggage while still looking “told old for a book bag” but “too cool for a briefcase.” Messenger bags fill that niche beautifully, so much so we stopped laughing about the term “messenger bag.”And the Rough Rider will certainly do everything you want a messenger bag to do. First off, you won’t be embarrassed to be seen with it in public. It’s made from gracefully aging leather for that “cowboy spirit in a business person’s body” aesthetic. Choose between different accent colors like crimson red and espresso brown. Use the special suitcase loops to class up your luggage during a flight. And although it’s marketed for carrying tech, nothing about the look immediately brands you as a dork. When you’re done gawking at the form, the function also impresses. The Rough Rider messenger bag is 16.5″ x 3.5″ x 11.5″ and the space is filled with various slots and compartments. The main lining is meant for a tablet or laptop up to 15 inches. But beyond that there’s room for all sorts of other necessary little bits of tech like chargers and phones and pens and maybe even, gasp, a video game. Take your picks of what to bring and simply snap everything shut.Once you’ve filled up your Rough Rider bag you’ll also be surprised at how comfortable it is to hold. The bag by itself is 3.5 pounds and obvious gets heavier as you drop in more stuff. But something about the way weight is distributed made the bag feel less heavy than it is. Waterfield says this is because of how slim the bag is “compressed.” The leather, on the exterior as well as the shoulder strap, is also just a pleasing, non-abrasive material to feel. But whatever the reason, holding the bag isn’t a chore, which is crucial for something you’re meant to carry every day and fill with your most important and cherish tech belongings.Of course all of this comes at a price, literally $429. But you should get good use out of the Waterfield Rough Rider messenger bag for a long time, certainly longer than most of the tech you’ll put into it. Love that planned obsolescence!Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey. Stay on target read more
