A forgery suspect ran through traffic and tried to carjack a motorist near Vancouver mall on Friday afternoon before swift-moving police were able to tackle him.The incident began at 3:40 p.m. when employees at Chase Bank, 8203 N.E. Vancouver Mall Drive, reported a man in the lobby was apparently trying to cash a forged check using stolen identification. When Officer Ilia Botvinnik and another policeman arrived a few minutes later, the suspect was leaving the bank. When he saw the police, he started running west, weaving his way through traffic on Thurston Way. He crossed into a parking lot near a sushi restaurant and turned left, with the officers chasing him.“I thought I was like in the movies,” said Botvinnik, who chased him across four lanes of busy traffic and into the parking lot of the strip mall.Next the suspect approached a woman in a silver sedan parked between the Svitoch deli, 4804 N.E. Thurston Way, and Maly’s beauty supply next door. He then attempted to pull the driver, described as a woman in her 20s or early 30s with dark hair, out of the car in order to steal it.
