Balurghat: A civic volunteer was killed in a road accident on Wednesday morning. The incident took place in Daulatpur-Thakurpura area under Banshihari police station in South Dinajpur.The deceased civic volunteer, Muqtar Hussein (30) was the resident of Kurshadanga village at Harirampur block. He was posted in Harirampur police station. Locals informed the deceased was hit by a goods laden speeding truck coming from the opposite direction when he was crossing the area towards Mehindipara riding motorbike. Also Read – Heavy rain hits traffic, flightsWhile the locals rushed him to a nearby health centre, the doctor declared him brought dead.Angry locals staged a demonstration and blocked Gazole-Hili National Highway 512 for about one hour demanding immediate posting of full-time traffic police as according to the locals, the area is accident prone zone. Police from Banshihari and Harirampur police stations reached the spot and lifted the agitation and blockade after positive assurance to fulfil the protestors’ demand. The driver and cleaner of the killer truck have been absconding. A search operation has been on. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
